Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha continues to discuss the qualities, enumerated by Sri Krishna in the 13th chapter, which are extremely relevant for a spiritual seeker.
Swamiji explains how ‘Sanga’ (attachment) created by constantly thinking about worldly objects and situations makes us helplessly fall prey to desire and anger.
Asanga (disattachment), Swamiji explains, does not mean becoming devoid of feelings but one no longer drowns in the feelings of sukha and duhkha when faced with difficult situations. When one has Asanga, one no longer identifies with one’s family or one’s own opinions. The mind becomes free of possessiveness.
All desires, negative thinking, clinging and misery sprout in the mind and intelligence. To grow spiritually, one must nourish the mind so that the ego and desires are sublimated. It can be done only by Vichara and contemplation on the Self, emphasizes Swamiji.
Referring to the 20 qualities, Swamiji explains in detail how the mind can be trained to constantly revel in our permanent, blissful nature to gain placidity and equanimity. Samatva, Surrender and Yoga vision are the outcome of understanding and developing the 20 qualities.
