01 – Essence of Spiritual Sadhana

20 Views | 3 years ago

This is a discourse series delivered by Swamini Ma Gurupriya ji at the ‘Centre for inner Resources Development’, Delhi.

Ma introduces the text Upadesha Panchakam by Adi Shankaracharya, giving a brief background of how this text was composed.

His disciples seeking to resolve their dilemma regarding the right path of liberation, humbly requested Adi Shankaracharya to guide them and show them the path. Adi Shankaracharya composed Upadesha Panchakam consisting of 5 Verses where he blends Jnana, Bhakti and Sadhana.

Ma mentions that these instructions are not only for renunciate seekers, but also for anyone who is yearning for Self-Realization. Chanting in Her characteristic melodious way, Ma fills the heart and mind with verses from Vivekachoodamani, Shivananda Lahiri and Shreemad Bhagavatam.

Explaining the 1st Verse of the text, Ma exhorts all seekers to have a very disciplined life. For this Ma prescribes that one has to be very sincere and committed to one’s pursuit. In order to cultivate sincerity, Ma recommends constant chanting of hymns, stotras and most importantly to nurture a pure mind, devoted to God and not to the world.
