Bhagavad Gita to overcome overwhelming emotions

Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

Whenever you want to develop a quality, love that quality. If you are able to spend 50 mind hours on a quality, then the quality will become inseparable from you.

Q2: Swamiji, you speak about nourishing our inner resources to  cultivate a sense of evenness, moderation and balance. It  is easy to remember the teachings of Bhagavad Gita when one is cool, calm and collected. But in moments when emotions such as anxiety, frustration, grief etc. overwhelm us, how do we remember the lessons of Gita to overcome that state of mind?

PS: Make it a practice to read Bhagavad Gita – think about one verse a day. When food is assimilated it becomes blood and energy. Similarly, when knowledge is assimilated it becomes an inner treasure from which you can get everything.

Between the inner personality and the external gross body, which is superior? All of you should spend enough time in the day to feed and nourish the mind and intelligence. How? Nourishment for intelligence is Knowledge, for mind is emotions. So, you must develop good emotions – love, sympathy, sacrifice – for the mind, and elevate your intelligence with greater and greater Knowledge.

Grow beyond your limited circle. As you are a member of your family, the family is a member of a social segment, which is a member of the nation, which in turn is part of the globe. So, as an individual you are a global citizen. In the same manner, your mind connects you to all of humanity and other creatures in the world. Why don’t you bring about this expansion!

Whenever you want to develop a quality, love that quality. If you are able to spend 50 mind hours on a quality, then the quality will become inseparable from you.

It is not enough if you say, “I want to be good, efficient”. Efficiency should dwell in the mind. When the mind is efficient, all performances will be efficient. If your mind becomes peaceful, everywhere it is peaceful. When the mind is contented, at all times you are contented.

Have a successful, resourceful, efficient and excellent mind, and all performances will become exceedingly efficient and successful.
