Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha

04 – Yoga of Enlightened Action | Bhagavad Gita Chapter 3 | Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha

364 Views | 2 years ago

Swamiji commences the talk by describing how the Bhagavad Gita is a revolutionary text. The Upanishadic knowledge was earlier given to seekers who took to “Exclusive knowledge pursuit”. But in Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna gave this same Upanishadic message to Arjuna in the battlefield. Swamiji emphasizes that the Knowledge as imparted in the Upanishad scenario may not be applicable for most people today but Karma as detailed by Krishna in the 3rd Chapter can be practised by everybody.

Swamiji, very lucidly explains that it is not as if there are different paths of Karma, Jnana and Bhakti. A seeker has to understand that it is the synthesis of Jnana, Karma and Bhakti, as presented in the Bhagavad Gita, that takes one to fulfillment.

Referring to verses from Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads, Swamiji elaborately discusses two very important and misunderstood words- Naishkarmya and Sannyasa. He emphasizes that they are internal attainments. Giving the examples of Adi Shankaracharya, Swami Vivekananda and Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha, Swamiji discusses how their lives are so inspiring, being dedicated to the service of the entire humanity. Their activities are desireless and free from the constrictions of doership and enjoyership. This is the message of Naishkarmya and sannyasa that karma yoga reveals.

Citing examples, Swamiji elaborately discusses how a seeker should not get lost in the revealed, but ever be anchored inward in the Revealer Consciousness. In the entire talk, Swamiji integrates Action and Knowledge, and discusses how with this Yoga Buddhi all actions are performed out of joy and not to get joy.
